On-site water treatment and
disposal in the removal & excavation of redundant fuel
tanks
An oil / water separator allows for bulk water to be processed
to a suitable standard so that it can be pumped direct to the
foul sewer drainage. This eliminates the need for costly
tankers to remove water from the site.
Developed to reduce the cost of water disposal, where tanks
have already been water filled, David
Plumb & Co utilise its Oil/Water Separator on-site
to treat and dispose of contaminated water. The four-stage
unit will separate petrol and solids from water at an approximate
rate of 15,000 litres per hour.
Free phase fuel is initially removed by skimming the surface
in the second chamber and can be collected in containers
for later disposal.
Solids are trapped in the coalescing material within chambers
1 & 2. Petrol/oil is absorbed by chamber 3. Chamber
4 polishes the final effluent.
The resultant discharge, as indicated by the many chemists’
tests that have been carried out, shows it is acceptable
to the Environment Agency and most local water authorities.
